Comet
in Pisces
Uploaded 1/27/03
This single frame was taken under
nearly ideal conditions at high altitude geograhically, and under
excellent seeing. The comet, now about 6.5 magnitude was in the
middle of the zodiacal light, causing gradient problems across
the frame. An emerald green coma followed by an electric arc
blue ion tail spanning over 4 degrees. About one degree of tail
was seen visually in the 9x60 binoculars, so I offset the head
about half a degree downward in the field. It was quite a pleasant
surprise to get a much longer tail than expected !
