First Lunar images with the
Questar 3.5" from Payson
Uploaded 5/18/13
This is the first set of
shots with the DMK51 camera of the Moon with our recent aquisition.
The night was clear, but very windy and the seeing was terrible.
But the moon rode high in the clear blue sky and we did some shots
of both the Lunar landscape and Saturn, which was about half way
up in the east. Exposures ranged from 1/8 second for some of the
3x barlow shots to 1/90 second for the prime focus images. I even
tried an Antares .5x focal reducer to get a bit larger field.
First a shot
of our setup on the second story balcony. We are at 5150 feet
elevation. I have a table set up with the laptop and camera stuff:
Lets start with
a two part composite with the Antares Focal Reducer:
Next we shoot
several frames with the prime focus which can capture not quite
half of the moon at one time!

For this next
set, I then switched in the built in 2x barlow and now we are
getting much closer in! Seeing was bad, but there were a few sharp
moments as you can see here:

For the next
two and final shots, I pushed the seeing probably too much, but
tried the Klee 3x external barlow. I can see on a night of good
seeing, this could be really good!

Well, thats it
for now, Take a look at my Saturn shots taken right after this
if you like. They can be found HERE.
