Comet Lemmon C/2023 H2
in the Evening sky
November 11, 2023

This 7th magnitude comet is closest to the Earth right now and was speeding rapidly across the rich starfields of Aquilla at over a degree per day. Very short sub exposures were in order here, about 1 min each, and were stacked onto the first image in the set.

While the head is bright, it is very diffuse and hard to see visually. Could barely make it out in the 2.1x40 binoculars. The tail is a ray type and is extremely faint. The field here is about 4 degrees wide, and shows some of the dark dust clouds here in this region.
