in the morning sky
10/2/24

Now 1.5 magnitude and fading into the Sunrise, I was able to for the last time to get the comet this morning which was burried in thick forest fire smoke only a few degrees up in the east. This was the first morning in weeks to see it with out clouds interfering as well. The resulting raw frames, each 15 seconds in duration were deep redish yellow in hue, virtually no blue or green was present. By adding the blues back in, I was able to recover most of the original colors, and stopped when the comet turned white. Extremely challening target for sure! The 8 inch RASA was set up on the second floor balcony on the east side of our house, and only a very narrow window in the tree tops would allow looking so low in the direction of the comet.

We now await its swing behind the Sun, to re emerge in the western evening sky brighter than ever. Since we have absolutely no view of the west from our house, I will have to travel each night to a distant location to image it.
