Comet C/2025 R2 Swan
in the evening sky
10/19/25

Here is a shot of comet Swan taken a few nights ago at the day of closest approach to the Earth. It was smack dab right in the middle of the scutum star clouds and was moving so fast I could not expose longer than 1 minute for each subframe to not totally blur out the comet. The tail was not seen even in binoculars, however I could see the comet naked eye without too much effort. Two shots are shown here. The first is with the RASA 11 and the second is a "Context" image taken with a 135mm f/2.4 lens simultaneously.

This shot is with the Samyang 135mm at f/2.4 and is the same exposure as above. Note that the comet is contained within the rich starclouds of Scutum, and a nice group of dark nebula on the left side.
