Comet Atlas K1 passes the Andromeda Galaxy M31
12/27/25

This faint comet is well on its way out of the inner Solar System, but still even at 4 magnitudes fainter than its peak 10th magnitude - displays a fine long dust tail. While this "Golden Comet" which lacks carbon ices in its nucleus displayed a nice yellow coloration near peak brightness, now it has faded to nearly pure white. I was just able to fit both the Andromeda Galaxy and the comet in one frame with the MiniCat 51, making a great comparison between the two objects.
