Comet Atlas K1 still the best comet in the sky
in the evening sky
12/9/25

This comet is arguably the most photogenic comet in the sky at this point in time. Both nuclear fragments were seen indistinctly in the sub frames, however at this level of magnification they are not visible. The yellowish comet is framed against a richly colored starfield in Cassiopeia, with a sweeping dust tail far longer than I anticipated from the dim subframes. Well worth spending some time on this one.

The second image was taken simultaneously as a wide field context image and shows about 5x the field around the main target.
