The central overexposed image of the Orion Nebula M42 is dwarfed by the extensive red hydrogen cloud of nebulosity flowing outward from the main nebula. The blue reflection nebula NGC1973-77 is below M42 with shades of purple and electric blue. The Horsehead nebula region is off the frame at the bottom. Note the left side of the image is nearly devoid of nebula, the area to the right showing streamers leading up to Barnards Loop.
