This seldom photographed part of the Scorpion contains some deep sky splendors of much beauty and interest. This composition includes the extensive blue reflection nebulosity IC4592 surrounding v Scorpii, which is a large circular object occupying the entire center of the field. The upper part is far more luminous, and has some internal structure. To its lower right is Beta Scorpii, a bright B0 star marking the top claw base of the constellations shape. To the left is a curious region, a dark nebulous rift Barnard 41 which is illuminated by the dim glow of the Milkyway to a deep brownish red color. The twin stars inside illuminate a neat little reflection nebula, IC4601.
