This amazing region of sky begins at the bottom right of the image with the Trifid nebula in Sagittarius followed by the open c luster M21 to its upper left. IC1283 is the round red cloud of hydrogen in the upper left corner, attended by NGC6589-90. The large chevron shaped dark nebula juts into the Milky Way like a sword, with glowing hydrogen around its periphery. Several loose disconnected reddish clouds of hydrogen float in this field.
