Sharpless 2-124 in Cygnus
with 10" f/3.9 Astrograph
Uploaded 10/26/23
This
week we would like to share with you a very interesting but seldom
imaged emission nebula in Cygnus called Sharpless 2-124. It has
no official name, but is incredibly beautiful complete with dark
lanes of dust, and a pink central bright nebulosity surrounded
by a field full of dim deep red background hydrogen. The dark
nebulosity in the center is LBN421 and LBN423. A very rich Cygnus
starfield forms a nice backdrop of golden and blue stellar diamonds
(G2V calibrated of course!). The reason that this beautiful object
is seldom imaged is because it is extremely faint. My initial
2 hours of RGB here showed nothing. But I kept at it for a month
and it was well worth the extra effort. Technical Data: 10"
f/3.9 Newtonian astrograph, 11h total integration time RRGB.
