M46 - M47 Field two part Panorama
with 10" f/3.9 Astrograph
Uploaded 3/10/23

This is the first official color image with our new CCD camera, the Atik 16200. There is some overlap here, but essentially this is two frames side by side. The Baader MPCC did a great job at keeping the stars sharp to the corners even with this larger APS-H chip which is 35mm diagonal.

M47 an open cluster is on the right and is a loose collection of mostly blue super giants. On the left we see M46 and the planetary nebula NGC2438 which lies some distance in front of this cluster in space. Between this planetary nebula and the top of the field you can see a small red disk - That is Minkowski 1-18 which is around 15.5 magnitude. And finally, halfway between the two clusters and close to the bottom is the dim cluster NGC2425 which is dominated by yellow super giants with a few blue ones mixed in. Other than those objects, there are a few background galaxies around magnitude 18.
