Spectra of Winter Stars
10" Newtonian and Star Analyzer
Uploaded 11/3/12

With the nearly full moon lighting up the entire sky, a clear night can not be wasted! So I put the 100lpmm Star Analyzer in front of the DBK41 color camera and shot some interesting stars with the 10 inch. The seeing was very bad, I was not able to see the companion of Sirius visually, just a huge puffy blob. Prime focus with the scope stopped to 4 inches to improve off axis performance (without a coma corrector) made for smaller blobs. While the sharpness of the spectra is not optimal, I did learn a lot about the colors of some unusual stars. So here they are all 10 of them, with spectral types indicated.

Images were processed in Rspec, and calibrated for camera and instrumental response. The originals were recorded at 11.4 Angstroms per pixel.
