Sharpless 2-27 surrounding
the bright blue star Zeta Ophiuchi is an enourmous object, spanning
well over 12 degrees in size. Inside we find some gorgeous glowing
wisps of deep red, a long snake like dark nebula (LDN204, 234)
reffered to as the "Dark Seahorse" nebula. In the very
center is a peculiar bluish-white wisp of glowing highly excited
oxygen forming a bowshock around Zeta. Notice how the color of
this huge nebula changes from top to bottom - deep reds to pinks
to magenta. What an incredible field!
