The Seagull Nebula in Canis Major / Monoceros
with 8" f/3.9 Astrograph
Uploaded 4/15/21
This extensive nebula
is normally imaged with longer focal lengths to show its full
extent. Here we imaged the center 2 degrees with the 8 inch up
in Happy Jack to reveal more details on the dim blue reflection
nebulosities present. These are rarely imaged clearly since most
imagers use Halpha filters to get the most red emission nebulosity
which effectively eliminates the delicate blue details.
Two dim round objects
are on the right side of the field. Just to the right of center
is Sharpless 295 which is a mix of blue and red. Further to the
upper right is Sharpless 293 a red emission object. The Seagull
is a collection of smaller named objects.
