Rosette Nebula Region
Emission / Reflection in Monoceros
Uploaded 2/27/26

Here is the wider field "context" image surrounding the Rosette, the image I posted last week that taken with the RASA11. In this 5x larger field taken with a 135mm f/2 lens, we can see that the Rosette is not alone in the sky but is accompanied by several objects of great interest. Just below (south) is Sharpless 2-280 a fainter yet detailed potential future target for consideration. More interesting is to the upper left of the Rosette - the Monoceros Loop Nebula. This big ring is a super nova remnant, and a very old one at that. At the very top of the loop the nebulosity involved with S monoceros and the Cone nebula starts to appear. For the second labeled frame, Ive added the field boundaries for the RASA 11 superimposed in several areas to indicate potential future shots. This is one of the major advantages of making context images of your primary target simultaneously!
