Orions Belt - Zeta to Epsilon Orionis
Emission / Reflection in Orion
Uploaded 3/22/25

Certainly one of the most dramatic and busy areas of Orion, this image has Zeta and Epsilon - the left two belt stars in this field. The framing here was very thought out and deliberate. Just to right of center is NGC1990 the main focus of this image. This mountainous looking mix of emission and reflection neblosities overlays a huge red arc of hydrogen. It forms a dramatic U shaped reflection nebula that arcs downwards to the right and back up terminating at IC423 the "Teardrop" Nebula. Note that this object is rimmed in red as well. See how the reds change at top from deep crimson to the lower left an intense pink from the additional h-beta line as Zeta adds its emission to the mix. Finally, for perspective on where this field is located, Ive put the Horse Head nebula in the lower left corner which also gives an overall scale to the image.
