Low in the Fall sky
looking south we find this pair of objects, a distant galaxy
called NGC233 or "Silver Coin" galaxy, and the much
closer globular star cluster NGC288. Both objects are in the
constellation of Sculptor, the Artist. For a galaxy, the Silver
Coin is really quite close at 12 million light years compared
to 30,000 lightyears for NGC288 located in our MilkyWay galaxy.
An often neglected imaging
target located low in the south on fall evenings is NGC253 -
the "Silver Coin" galaxy and NGC288 a globular in our
Milky Way galaxy. I can just fit both in the field of the RASA
here, NGC253 is the closest major starburst galaxy at magnitude
7.5 and NGC288 is 9.4 magnitude.
