NGC1973, 75, 77 in Orion - The "Running Man" Nebula
Emission nebula shaped like a Marathoner
Uploaded 3/6/21
This incredible object
lies about 1 degree north of the more famous M42 Orion Nebula,
and is part of the same molecular cloud complex. consisting of
a blue reflection nebular core surrounded by dust and some emission
nebulosity, it is very bright, large and fits perfectly in the
80 arcmin field of the 10 inch as you can see here.
The dark violet core
has a shape that has been attributed to having similarities to
a "running man", which is a bit difficult to see with
such a nebulous extent seen here. Along the top and right sides
here in this photo, the nebulosity can be seen to have a more
brown dusty color.
