Markarian Chain with M87 and Abell 1526
Galaxies in Virgo
Uploaded 5/6/25

This carefully composed image is centered on the Markarian Chain of galaxies in Virgo. The composition was chosen to include the huge M87 at the lower left, and at the upper right - What at first appears to be an open cluster - is the 17 magnitude Abell 1526 Galaxy cluster. For perspective, The Virgo cloud is 55 MLY distance. The yellow tinted (red shifted) Abell 1526 is cataloged as 1.2 billion light years distance! Galaxies and stars to 20th magnitude are recorded in this deep image. I really love the Baader RGB filter set. The combine ratio here is 1:1:1, which yielded really accurate galaxy colors. Note the beautiful blue wings in the central "Eyes" pair of galaxies.
