Deep images from our
dark high altitude site in northern Arizona of the M38-IC417
region reveal a host of beautiful features in the winter Milk
Way. The brilliant star cluster M38 is at top, just under it
is the rich smaller open cluster NGC1907 immersed in a wreath
of nebulosity. At the bottom is IC417 a richly pink colored cloud
of hydrogen surrounded by a dim blue reflection component. And
just to its left is NGC1930 a stunning mix of both emission and
reflection nebula in a small package. Note that the entire field
here (about 3 degrees wide) is filled with arcs and wreaths of
pink and red hydrogen emissions.
The included "Context"
Image which was taken simultaneously with the 5x wide field of
the 135mm perfectly frames the entire nebulous complex. Note
the round "Pumpkin Nebula" on the upper left.
