IC2118 in Eridanus
Reflection nebula
Uploaded 6/11/24
IC2118 is truly a magnificent object with more than average detail for a reflection nebula. This is a two part panorama, with the top and bottom of this image each an hour exposure with the RASA. Up until recently, this object was portrayed with north up as you see here. It was only recently with the advent of digital imaging that more imagers would attempt this extremely dim object. I have seen this orientation all my life in publications, and dont really subscribe to the south up "witches face" that many imagers today see in this incredible object. Whichever orientation you prefer, give this one a try next winter, and you may be surprised just how much detail there is to see here!
