The IC1287 Region in Scutum
Rich star clouds and dark nebulosity

The brilliant Scutum
            star clouds contain many surprises. Here what appears at first
            glance to be dark lanes and bays radiating outward from a sky
            blue reflection nebula (IC1298) and rich open cluster (NGC6649)
            in the center. A sharpless emmision nebula on the lower right
            (Sh2-54) adds a bit of color to the mix, and the super rich star
            clouds found here range from dusty yellows to unobscured blues
            and violets. This shot is about 8 degrees in width.
