Hubbles Variable Nebula - S Monoceros Region
Emission / Reflection in Monoceros
Uploaded 9/26/26

Here is the familiar S Monoceros region with the wide field MiniCat 51. Besides the Cone nebula and S Monoceros nebulosities just above center, we have two other very interesting targets. Just to the right of S Monoceros is a dim but very rich yellow tinted star cluster, Trumpler 5. It is very dust dimmed, and the brightest stars are magnitude 17! Not a single star in this cluster is visual even with a 16" telescope. Yet it images very nicely. The blue dust mote to the right of this is the reflection nebula IC2169, a seldom imaged highly structured cloud of space dust.
