Brightest star in Constellation of Indus

Skirting
            the southern horizon at around 7 degrees up when on the meridian,
            the brightest star in the constellation of Indus (the Indian)
            is alpha Indi. This 3.1 magnitude subgiant K0 star is also a
            challenging double star with an 11.9 magnitue companion at 66"
            distance with the pair having a yellow and silver coloration.
            At 100 light years from the Earth, it is 50 times more luminous
            than the Sun with a warm orangish hue. This star has no common
            names but is cataloged as HD196171.
