hovering only 10 degrees
up when on the meridian in late summer we find the bright star
Alpha Telescopii. While there is no common name to be found for
this 3.5 magnitude star, I did find that it is spectrally peculiar
showing unusual abundances of mercury and manganese in its spectrum.
It is a B type star, with a surface temperature of around 11,000
Kelvin. While low at -46 declination, it can only be seen well
from the southern US well.
