Amateur Telescope Making The 12.5 inch - Birch Mesa Observatory Astrograph Uploaded 12/5/17
 Finally, the 12.5" astrograph was moved to Payson in 1990. The observatory was a roll off roof, and we rebuilt the tube as a solid wood unit to minimize flexure for imaging. It worked great, but took too long to equalize thermally. The mount had a hard time tracking precisely with such a heavy tube at this point, and the tube was due for a rebuild soon.

 

Much wood working went into this tube! It was really solid and I could mount all sorts of other instruments on its back. The 12.5" f/5 Astrograph Rev 2 - Photographic
