Amateur Telescope Making The First 16 inch - "Transportable Mount" Uploaded 12/5/17
Ok, at some point we all want an easy to set up portable instrument right? After I had this instrument in the observatory for a while, we next made it portable. I had built this one to enter in the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference for a possible award. Well, this shot is at the conference with the finished (barely) scope on display. It won a coveted merit award for the hand rolled tube I made from masonite curved by wetting it with water bit by bit.

Transporting the instrument was a challenge, I had to fit it like a puzzle into the back of the pick up truck. Most of the time it survived the trip out to the star party.

The next year, it was back at RTMC with a new covering of wood grain laminate. It was so heavy now - what was I thinking?
