The
Magellanic Clouds over the
Sheep
Station
Milkyway
and Companion Galaxies
Uploaded 7/8/06
Our
recent trip down under deep into the Outback of Australia at
-22 latitude was filled with sunny days and clear dark skies
at night. On this first image from our trip, I am showing a wide
angle vista of both clouds poised over the sheep shearers quarters
at one ranch we stayed at with the SMC rising on the lower left,
and LMC setting on the lower right. The pole is centered to the
lower left of Musca, and Eta Carina is the pink object to upper
right. A few dramatic clouds drifted by for a while, setting
the stage for a more aesthetic composition. Look carfully at
the top center to see the thin dark nebula known as the "Dark
Doodad". |
