A brand new robot, designed to test out the concepts of using insect like antennas and small mammal whiskers to assist in internal home navigation. Only six inches in diameter, it is the perfect size for our robot arena test area and will be right for upstairs testing in the home environment. All programming is done using CCS-C.

TDR - Two lexan plates are the backbone of the electronics and mechanical assemblies. On the top is my last (of four) robot boards Ive designed several years ago and contains a contemporary PIC micro controller - the powerful 16F887 chip. The board also contains various driver processors, motor chips and sound devices.

The wheels are my own creations, mounted on two modified Parallax servos. A battery pack is between the motors underneath. The test articles such as feelers or whiskers will be mounted on the front on the lower plate for evaluation.

Insects rule the world today, and a big part of their success is their sensory mechanisms such as antennas, wide angle vision, and auditory communication. Here we will attempt to emulate insect navigation with various feeler designs, then move onto multiple feelers such as a mouses whiskers might be like.
